Intelligence for European digital TV market
DATE: 27st November 2008
____________________________________ Intelligence for European digital TV market ____________________________________ A new report from Meko Limited, the leading specialist European display market research consultancy, has confirmed that there is a huge disconnect for European consumers between the sets they buy and the TV content they watch. The report identifies that by 2011, 96% of TVs purchased in Europe will include a digital tuner, but only 20% of consumers will use DTT to recieve TV images on their main home sets. This is in the same way that European consumers have invested in HD ready sets even though only very few are watching HDTV. "In an already complicated market, the staggered switch to digital TV across Europe has fragmented the television environment further," commented Bob Raikes, managing director of Meko Limited. "The market can't be defined at a quick glance, it requires attention to the technologies used and the broadcast arrangements for satellite, cable and IPTV for each country." The European Digital TV Special Report and PlusPack update service have been developed by Meko's team of experienced analysts to identfy the market variables across Europe and to give valuable insight. As a result manufacturers of TVs, STBs and associated components, as well as broadcasters and regulators will be able to use the report findings to make strategic decisions based on authoritative market analysis. In particular the PlusPack update service allows the difficult decisions about timing, cost and technical features to make more efficiently and from a position of knowledge. The provision by Meko of TV set forecasts and technology requirements by country is a unique feature of the Digital TV report and PlusPack update service and establishes them as essential intelligence for the marketeers of the European digital TV market.
