Resellers Benefit From Selling Premium Specification LCD Monitors
DATE: 19th April 2007
The addition of comprehensive multi-country channel sales data analysis is the latest improvement to the ever-developing DisplayCast Desktop Monitor market intelligence from Meko. The data highlights not only the differences in street pricing for similar products in different regions of Europe but also how desktop monitor specification trends are varying across the countries included in the analysis.

"Whilst we've been able to track and analyse street price and overall specification trends in several countries in Europe, what has not been possible before is to analyse sales into the channel at a 'by model' level", notes Pete Gamby, Meko's research director. "Many suppliers of monitors want to have this level of granularity to see how new specifications are being accepted and also at what premium, if any, new features can be sold. The data we've added for our clients allows them to see these changes on a monthly basis".

At the simplest level, it's clear from the information that resellers in some countries are asked to pay more for products in the same size class. For example, analysis of the increasingly popular 19" wide sector shows that UK resellers are paying the least for entry level models while in Belgium the average reseller purchase price is €24 higher than in the UK. In contrast, for "business class" products of standard aspect ratio 19" monitors, the UK sees the highest average reseller price while Spanish resellers pay the least (this class of product includes higher specification LCD panels and features such as stand height adjustment and TCO compliance).

"What is making our clients very excited about this new data is the ability to drill down to specification level to try to find the sweet spots in each market", notes Jordan Popov, desktop monitor service manager at Meko. "For example, we can see that, although there are many 19" wide monitors arriving on the market from many brands, resellers are currently paying more for those models that use fast response time panels". A €20 difference at the reseller level for the higher specification product translates into a €30 difference for the end user, showing that the channel is able to squeeze a little extra margin from sales of these premium products.

Adding tens of thousands of channel sales data records a month for more than 10 countries across Europe to the 30,000+ street prices a month that Meko collects means that companies at all levels of the desktop monitor supply chain can better understand the size and, perhaps more importantly, the shape of the European monitor market.
