Big Name Keynotes announced for DisplayForum 2003
DATE: 15th May 2003

"The LCD monster is trying to take over every display market, from the small displays on mobile phones to the large TV applications previously thought to be the natural habitat of PDP technology", said Bob Raikes, Managing Director of Meko Ltd. "Even the new OLED technology is under threat from the voracious appetite of the many tentacles of the LCD suppliers".

LCD monitors are now taking over nearly 40% of the market by volume and over 90% in some countries in Europe. There's a huge growth in LCD supply - LCD makers are likely to add as much new capacity in 2003 as the entire worldwide LCD supply capacity in 2000. Large area TFT LCDs grew by 27% year on year and LCD TVs grew by 54% in the final quarter of 2002.

In this climate, the DisplayForum conference will pose the controversial question, "Will LCD achieve total dominance?" To answer for the LCD industry, the three largest large-area LCD manufacturers in the world, LG.Philips LCD, Samsung and AU Optronics will be providing senior executives.

TFT LCD keynote speakers are now confirmed as: Bruce Berkoff, Executive Vice President of Marketing, LG.Philips LCD, HB Chen, CEO, AU Optronics, Joe Virginia, Vice President Sales & Marketing, Samsung Semiconductor Inc. Also serving as keynotes are Rajat Kakar, Executive Director, Professional Mobile Business, Fujitsu Siemens Computers and David Fyfe CEO of OLED innovators Cambridge Display Technology who will respond on behalf of system and alternative technology vendors. There will be speakers from many other companies including InFocus, Hitachi, Lumileds, Nokia, UDC, Viewsonic and ZBD Displays. Industry speakers will be supported by senior analysts from Meko, DisplaySearch and Pacific Media Associates with the latest market data, trends and forecasts.

All the main topics will be covered to ensure a comprehensive insight into the market over the three days of the event: Monitors; Notebooks; Tablets; PDAs; Flat Panel TV; Large area LCDs; Plasma; Projectors; Mobile phones; OLEDs and manufacturing.

Gold sponsors Lumileds Lighting and LG.Philips LCD and other companies to be announced will be present in the exhibition accompanying the conference.

Bob Raikes of Meko commented, "We are building on the success of last year's event to put together a bigger, better and even more informative conference in October 2003. Our new location in den Haag is easy to reach and the agenda has been expanded over three days to fit in the huge wealth of data available."
